FINDING JOY

Still learning…

Our Concert Adventure

A few months ago, I was telling my friend that I wanted to attend more concerts in the summer. We listen to a lot of the same types of music and I remember asking her one day if she ever listened to Good Charlotte. She was visibly excited as she said it was one of her favorite bands!

I wondered aloud if they were still touring and imagined what seeing them live would be like. In her usual way, she said, “Well, look it up!” I quickly grabbed my phone, and our excitement grew. To our surprise, they were touring with Avenged Sevenfold, which I had never heard of, but she had. It wasn’t until the day of the concert that we figured out Good Charlotte was headlining for Avenged Sevenfold, as we thought Good Charlotte was the main event!

We bought the tickets and then requested time off at our respective jobs. I knew a few of their most popular songs, but I decided to do a deep dive in Apple iTunes.

Finally, the day of the concert had arrived! We both woke up early and decided to hang out. I dropped my dog off at my parents’, we got lunch, and then embarked on our road trip. We listened to Good Charlotte the whole way to Tinley Park, roughly a two-hour drive. We did all the things: venue food, stood in line for merchandise, acquired an adult beverage, and finally listened to Good Charlotte live! In the end, we decided to skip Avenged Sevenfold and leave early. It was a great adventure!

It’s been a long journey for me. There was a time when large groups felt overwhelming, but now I can embrace them with confidence. This is a remarkable step forward for me! Still, every time I go to a concert, my energy is zapped for about two days. Which means I am going to take it easy for the next few days, but in this case, the adventure was worth the downtime.
